I started with this $7 mirror from the thrift store: I spray painted the frame white ($3) and then added four coats of magnetic paint (kind of expensive, a quart was $20) straight onto the mirror. Then I sprayed two coats of chalkboard paint ($5) on top of the magnetic paint. That's it! ...
